People became much more conscious and critical of what companies said, how they worked, and why they made what they made. In the past, companies simply disseminated messages but now they had to engage in a dialogue with their customer and truly live up to their promise. As the balance of power shifted in the marketplace, the practice of branding moved out of the marketing department and became embedded into everything.
